As a Counsellor I have the privilege of supporting clients through their journeys of self discovery.
As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I follow their ethical guidelines for practice. Please see my BACP profile David Willis. If you would like to see my certificates please ask when we meet, please ask - I have a copy in my office.
Although a Person Centred Counsellor (working with your feelings and how this affect your relationships including how you feel about yourself), I also have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (working with your thoughts), systemic practice (taking into account the life systems that affect your family, work life, and circumstances). Our counselling can include elements of different therapy models, as best suits you.
As a counsellor I am not qualified to diagnose conditions, and do not do so. If a client has a diagnosis I will keep this in mind, and respect it. If a client is seeking a diagnosis to support them socially or at work, I am happy to offer emotional support while they go through that process (with the appropriately trained clinicians such as medical clinicians trained in diagnosing Anxiety and Depression, Autism, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Personality Disorders, Psychosis, Schizophrenia or other neurological conditions). However, all people are more than their diagnosis, and we are working together towards what you hope to achieve, what will make your life better for you, irrespective of what diagnosis you may already have, or be hoping for to help you emotionally, medically or socially.
In addition I am available to clients who are seeking counselling/ coaching/ anger management/ personal development.
Areas of particular interest to me are working towards resolving men's issues, identity including gender identity, self-esteem/assertiveness, depression and anxiety, recovery from abuse/anger/hurt/addiction situations, communication and relationship.
Also offered:
Anger self-management, aimed at helping clients to find ways to resolve their anger.
Communication Skills and developing confidence through practice (role play).
Working with couples. This is relationship counselling.
Supervision for counsellors (qualified and/or training).
Emotional, mental and physical relaxation through guided visualisation and/or meditation.
Reiki healing - please note I do not offer this as part of counselling, but as a separate service.
